Tour 5: Searching by special search criteria

In equipment design, structural engineering and engineering analysis, professionals often need to have some specific information on material properties such as machinability data, metallography data or magnetic properties. Fast access to this information is usually essential to complete engineering tasks successfully and efficiently, and this is exactly what Oxford Instruments Grade Database gives you.

Step 1: Choosing a search option

In this example, suppose that you want to review machinability data of all steels specified by SAE standard (US Society for Automotive Engineering).

To select materials by special properties, you are using Special Search check boxes in the Advanced Search module.

Step 2: Defining search criteria

To define the search criteria, all you have to do is to select USA/SAE from the Country/Standard pop-up list and to check machinability data box, situated in the Special Search group in the lower part of the window.

Defining search criteria

When you click Submit button, Oxford Instruments Grade Database search engine will select all SAE steels which contain machinability data and display them in the list, in a few seconds.

Step 3: Viewing material properties

To view properties of some specific material from the list, click on its designation, and follow the usual procedure, as described in Tour 1.

Step 4: Getting machinability data

To get machinability data from within Material Properties window, simply click machinability link, positioned in the Properties group. As a result, you can see all available properties for selected material.
